Behind every remarkable miniature is a story worth telling. Today, we share the journey of one maker whose project transformed from a spark of inspiration into a beautifully realized piece of art.
This creative work comes to us from Alabama where an artist, named Michael, does his creating!

Please describe your diorama and what you feel defines it.
I used the 1/24 scale Volkswagen Pickup from Hasegawa. I go to model car conventions for competitions. I wanted to build something different as I always do. I figured if I had some tiny boxes as a delivery on a handmade pallet. Then that would be a smart idea. I have tons of extra details I have added to the body and interior. I used actual automotive paints and airbrushed them. Primer, splash paints gloss black, tropical glitz orange lollipop candy over the black, splash paints 2k clear. I have the full video as a showcase explaining everything on this build on my YouTube channel: "Bama Scale Models"
What inspired you to build this particular diorama?
I just wanted something different and clever. I reached out and found MstrcrftMinis. They helped me tremendously.
Why did you choose to work in 1:24 scale?
This scale is most common for car models. I build different scales too but 1/24 scale is a good overall scale.
What first got you into the miniature or diorama hobby?
I have always been crafty with my hands. My father bought me a model car kit at Walmart around 2001. I've been building since then. I started at age 13.
Which MstrcrftMinis items did you use in this project (if any)?
I requested some custom prints of 1/24 scale model boxes made into 1/24 scale. They are great. I cut and formed them into these boxes.

What was your favorite part of building this diorama?
My favorite part was knowing how clever and different this build was.
What was the most challenging part of the build?
The most challenging part was the paint. I use actual automotive paints and had to wet sand polish and everything as a real car. Taping off and keeping it clean in between coats was a challenge.

Do you see yourself as more of a planner or an improviser when building?
I always like to plan out my builds, but when something happens, I'm really good at plan b or c.
What is your next miniature or diorama project going to be?
I have multiple ones and multiple ideas constantly. One of them is a redneck version of a 1/24 scale 1978 Bronco. With a custom wood camper and much more.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your project or your process?
This build was fun. I had a few things that I had to change and fix that's part of the process.
